A Pillar of Democracy
The Social Media Posts
This assignment allowed for me to combine creativity, art, and a cause that I am passionate about. Voting is a major aspect of our democracy and this assignment gave me the opportunity to encourage others to exercise their right to vote in the crucial 2020 election. I was able to do this by posting two art pieces that I created. The first post I made I applied a 3-D effect to the well known Disney character, Mickey Mouse with the word Vote incorporated throughout. For my second post I presented an abstract and modern twist on classic Mickey, paired with the word "VOTE" in a bold font. Through these posts I was able to encourage people to vote while also being able to incorporate one of my passions, art.
Vote
The Future is Gen Z
The Media Refletion
Gen Z voters are going to play a key part in the upcoming election and those that will follow it. The 2020 election is the first presidential election that most of Gen Z can vote in. This provides a new wave of voters unique from those already established. Gen Z is unique because we have grown up in a digital age and have not known a world without technology being at the center of our lives. Being a digital native has positives and negatives. One positive that will have an impact on voting as a member of Gen Z is that we know how to navigate the internet so that we can educate ourselves on the current events. However, being a digital native means that at a very young age we had our eyes opened to the problems and dangers occurring in the world because we are surrounded by the news and the internet. This impacts Gen Z’s willingness to vote because we are more educated on the events taking place in the world and we are more connected to the various outcomes that could occur as a result of this election. Another factor that is drawing Gen Z to the polls is COVID-19 and its immense impact that it has had on our lives. COVID-19 has made it so our young adult and childhood experiences that we supposed to happen were altered drastically, and this reflects upon the current leadership. For those in Gen Z who have not decided if they are going to vote, or who they are voting for impacted by the digital trends that are circulating. This is because through these trends they are seeing people that they possibly look up to voting or encouraging them to vote. Additionally, these trends educate Gen Z and other generations on how to register to vote and the importance of voting which helps draw them to the polls.
